Landmarks on the way

1. Engineers' Gate Start and finish at East 90th Street and Fifth Avenue, the classic meeting point for New York runners.
2. The Reservoir A 1.58-mile cinder track circles the water. The short route cuts along its north side on the bridle path.
3. The Pool A quiet pond below the North Woods, just after the 102nd Street Cross Drive brings you to the west side.
4. Delacorte Theater The open-air home of free Shakespeare in the Park every summer.
5. Strawberry Fields The memorial to John Lennon. The short route turns east here across the 72nd Street Cross Drive.
6. Tavern on the Green The New York City Marathon finishes on West Drive right beside it.
7. Wollman Rink The southern end of the loop, with the Midtown skyline behind it.
8. Bethesda Terrace The fountain and arcade at the heart of the park, on the short route.
9. Cat Hill The one real climb on the way home. A bronze panther watches from the rock on your left.
10. The Obelisk An Egyptian obelisk behind the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Half a mile to the finish.
